Women's Health/ Incontinence
Women's Health Physiotherapy helps manage and treat issues that are specific to women throughout different stages of their lives ( young women, pregnancy, postnatal and menopause)
One in three women who have had a baby will suffer with bladder leakage. Unfortunately, this is not a topic that is often spoken about and many women suffer in silence as they are too embarrased, or they think it is normal and there is nothing they can do to fix it. Unless treated, this issue does not resolve by itself. Luckily Physiotherapy can completely cure 65% of urinary incontinence and can avoid the need for any surgery.
Our Women’s health Physiotherapist specialises in
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Urinary Incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Painful sex
- Pelvic pain
- Nocturia ( frequently waking during the night and needing to use the toilet )
- Pre and post natal care
What to expect during your first session.
The initial appointment is 45-60 minutes and requires taking a comprehensive history about pelvic floor function, bladder/bowel habits, sexual and obstetric background. Sometimes we recommend an internal vaginal examinationto help us properly assess your pelvic floor function. Following the initial visit, we will formulate the best management plan to maximise your recovery. This may include exercises to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, retraining bladder habits using a bladder diary, and possible lifestyle changes. We will also determine if input from any other health professionals is required.
