Sports Injuries

Sports injuries can be either acute or due to overuse. Acute injuries are caused when soft tissues are traumatised by overstretching or direct impact, for example, ankle sprains and muscle strains. Overuse injuries are caused by excessive wear and tear on joints and tissues, e.g shin splints and tendonitis. These can be caused by overtraining or factors such as poor technique or an inadequate warm-up.

Physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat all types of sports injuries. We can look at the biomechanics and anatomical requirements of each sport and address injuries in a holistic manner ensuring you return to sport as quickly as possible. We can also advise about injury prevention through ensuring sufficient warm-up, correct footwear etc and assess for any problem areas that may make you more prone to injury.
